The Possessive with 's

When we want to show that something belongs to somebody or something, we usually add 's to a singular noun and an apostrophe ' to a plural noun, for example:[/align]

الملكية باستخدام s'
عندما نريد ان نظهر بأن شيئا ما تعود ملكيته لشخص او شيء,فاننا عادة ما نضيف s' للاسماء المفردة و ' فاصلة للاسماء التي هي في حالة الجمع ,مثال

the boy's ball =one boy
the boys' ball =two or more boys

Notice that the number of balls does not matter. The structure is influenced by the possessor and not the possessed.

لاحظ بان عدد الكرات لا يهم.لان بناء الجملة متاثر بالمالك و ليس بالمملوك

NOTE
Although we can use of to show possession, it is more usual to use possessive 's. The following phrases have the same meaning, but #2 is more usual and natural

1. the boyfriend of my sister
2. my sister's boyfriend[/align

1. the boyfriend of my sister= صديق اختي
2. my sister's boyfriend= صديق اختي(لكن هذه الجملة مالوفة اكثر و طبيعية اكثر)[/frame]

Proper Nouns (Names)

We very often use possessive 's with names:

This is Mary's car.=هذه سيارة ماري
Where is Reem's telephone?=اين هاتف ريم
Who took Ahmed's pen?=من اخذ قلم احمد
I like Tamara's hair.يعجبني شعر تمارى

When a name ends in s, we usually treat it like any other singular noun, and add 's:
عندما ينتهي الاسم العلم بـ s ,نعامله معاملة طبيعية كأي اسم مفرد

This is Charles's chair.

But it is possible (especially with older, classical names) to just add the apostrophe ':
لكنه من الممكن(خاصة مع الاسماء الاكبر او الكلاسيكية)ان نضيف الفاصلة
Who was Jesus' father?[/align]

1-بعد الاسم العلم او الاسم (الكلمة التي هي في محل اسم)فان الملكية هي دائما بهذا الشكل(s')
This is Sue's bag
These are Sue's bags

2-عندما يكون الاسم جمعا و منتهيا بـ(s) نضيف فقط الفاصلة (’)
My parents' flat is quite small
The girls' bedroom is upstairs

3- عندما يكون الاسم جمع و لكن غير منتهي بـ(s) نضيف (s')
The children's coat are here
The men's toilets are closed
Emma and Paul's car is outside

4- و نستخدم (s') مع كلمات الوقت
A week's holiday
tody's weather
yesterday's newspaper

5- و نستخدم ('s) مع كلمات الوقت في حالة الجمع
Two weeks' holiday[/align]
